The Absurdity of War

This street sign, kept to this day as a memorial and reminder, is from WWII when Leningrad was under siege for more than two years by German forces. The sign tells citizens not to walk on this side of the street, the northern side. That is because the German artillery, which fired irregularly albeit consistently, was located to south of the city, and the buildings on the other side of the street might provide cover.
